33,000 miles and smoking
hi i have a 02 wrx that just turned 33,000 miles, it has a hks downpipe and a pit performance bov. My problem is that every other day day it wll start smoking, not huge clouds at first just small tendrils at first, sometimes at start up sometimes when sitting at a red light. it is a black smoke. ia am not running anything after the down pipe and i have o2 sims. anyone have a clue to the cause or fix? (i have factory shop manuals and it has nothing listed)

ya could be the bov...i have an 02 wrx also with 28k...i think im running a lil rich cuz the exhaust has a stink smell sorta....could it be cuz ur in the airforce that ur car sits ?...same here..well air guard..later
checked i/c pipes, small amount of oil found in hose from throtle body to i/c. I`m running royal purple and several people told me i would have some leakage doing it. would running just a hks down pipe with no exhaust be hurting it also?

downpipe will have no effect on anything, but to have some oil in the throttle body means that your turbo is starting to puke some oil, meaning that only having 33k miles, it was sitting for a while, the seals could be going out on the turbo dumping some oil in the engine and making it smoke a little. Where are you located?
i found a shop that says i need a whole new turbo, they a trying to get me to buy a turbonetics unit that is supposed to be good for 450hp, thats nice but it worries me because the rest of the car is stock

turbo is pukin' oil. I would either replace with a stock turbo, or put something with a little more juice, possibly vf34. Remember that when upgrading the turbo, you will need to purchase new injectors, a new fuel pump, and get your car tuned. You may want to do a leak down/compression test in order to make sure the block is still ok and is going to be able to handle a new bigger turbo.
My personal suggestion would be to replace with a stock turbo for cost reasons, and also to run the car a little and see if it is able to handle the normal boost before puttin it to work with some good boost.

the reason i was going to go with the turbontics unit is they want to do a partial sponsor, it ends up so it is actually about 300 more than the stocker including all labor. i have a good aftermarket warrenty that is paying for all but the three hundred dollars. they will also get me a new block if i crack it :-). they want me to use a turboxs dual stge boost controler and a cobb acess port so i am trying to find them cheap.
