'02 WRX - 150K miles - Rebuild motor for AutoX?
I have a 2002 WRX with about 150K miles on it. Most of those miles are from commuting and two seasons of AutoX. Since I moved to NY, the car has been mainly sitting in the driveway of my parents house (about 2 years). Yes, my parents drive the car at least once a week to keep it running etc.
The time has come for me to move back to SF. I've been wanting to get back into AutoX and would like to use the WRX (Legacy is my DD). I couldn't find an answer to my question using the search so I thought I'd start a new post.
The car is in great shape given the amount of miles on it, but I want to know if I should consider a rebuild on the motor to avoid any issues when I put it back into AutoX mode. I should note that I also plan to do the occasional track day.
Thoughts on the rebuild? Do it before AutoX? Do it when something does break? Are there kits that I can purchase to do this work? Anything on the subject is helpful.
Thanks!

Thanks for the response! I wasn't planning on rebuilding the engine, but since I want to use the car mainly for AutoX and track days, I figured I should ask before I get back into it.

Yeah I would say drive it like you stole it till it breaks, but start looking at what the motor replacement is going to cost you and start setting that money aside.
Also consider you may not want to do a rebuild as an OEM shortblock is usually cheaper unless you are looking at building I.E. forged piston ETC....
