Generally anything bellow ~1550 is considered ok for EGTs. High EGTs can be caused by running a lean mixture or extremely retarted timing. Its still not a very accurate way to tune but atleast you can get close.

As I was saying before for different applications different applications can run different temperatures. I found when I was running NA, you can run a little hotter for a littler longer period of time, especially with a free flowing exhuast. The NA RS I had going to 1600 degrees all the time, with no problems. Though it was actually hard to get the car to run that lean. Much harder then a Turbo car that just loves to get hot REAL fast.
1400 Degrees is pretty rich and if that is WOT in 5th gear than for sure you can run much leaner and still be pretty safe. You might want to try 1500 degrees. This is still safe yet will get you more power.
Cheers,
Bill

well, i was driving around, and i had the stereo pretty loud. i figured i had the mixutre pretty good (3200 miles). i pulled out from a stop sign and heard a noise, and the car shuddered. it stalled, and i tried to restart it, but it wouldnt even turn over...
im thinkin the worst of course, but i have to look at it this weekend. pull the plugs, drain the oil, etc... but i think it seized...
doesnt make any sense to me. i kept oil in it, and was running rich...
well, ill let you guys know whats up
