Apexi afc on a NA car
I have 00 2.5rs. So far I have the pdm intake (which retains the stock air box) w/K&N filter, and the complete unorthodox underdrive pulley set installed. I was reading an old sport compact car article that talked about the need for an air/fuel controller for the intakes which replaced the entire stock setup- airbox and all. This was on a '99 and it lost a lot of power higher in the rpms. The Apexi Afc they used was able to restore most all that was lost. I am going to get the TWE or Cobb header and cams as soon as its warm enough to work on my car again. My question is- Would using an afc be beneficial to my NA setup? I was under the assumption that the 00 model has a better mass air flow sensor than the 98- 99s. Also, the fact that i kept the stock air box, makes me think that I shouldn't have any problem with lost power. I am wondering because sometimes I feel like my car is a bit more wussy after about 4500 rpm than it used to be. I drive my girlfriend's stock 01 outback sport from time to time and it seems to pull stronger up high. I also feel like I should be gettting better mileage- right now i get anywhere from 16-20 in town and at best about 25 on the highway(93 octane) I could also just be imagining things, going off wrong assumptions, or just trying to convince myself I need it because I like gadgets
Anybody running one on their car w/o a turbo and seeing any appreciable benefits???

map to maf, or maf to map.... I always forget which it was changed to on the 00, 01. In any case, the point was I was under the assumption that the MAP sensor was not only less prone to vibration from after market intakes, but that it also might not be affected by the huge increase in airflow provided by an aftermarket intake. This is what was the problem in the 99 in the article i read. The MAF sensor in the 99 was mistakenly reading as if there was much less air and thus provided less fuel; this lead to a bit of knock and in turn lots of igniton retard and power was drastically reduced. I am wondering if this is something to worry about in the 00, 01 2.5rs and whether or not an afc would be of any value to me.
