how effective is the reflash?
also i would be interested in a standalone that i can take to a dyno one time and get it tuned once and be done with it.
For mild mods like the VF30/34 turbo upgrade and turbo back exhaust a reflash works out great for most folks' needs. You're gonna have to make a choice, though. A standalone is just that - standalone engine management that no longer utilizes the stock ECU for good cold start, cold weather, smooth idle with A/C on, etc. Standalones can be used on the street but you'd better find a tuner that knows his stuff.

can you just keep reflashing differnt fuel/boost maps at the dyno? is that practical?
Yes. I think maps are reflashed several times during a tuning session. Cobb Tuning says there is a finite limit to the number of reflashes that the ECU can accomodate - about 100, I think, but nobody I know has hit the limit even with several dyno tuning sessions for different mods.

For more specific questions like the FMIC, you'd best contact Gruppe-S. Most tuners want to know everything you've modded on the engine, as they may have some tweaked maps off-the-shelf that may work a little better in your application.

ecutek also mentions that the ecu can only be reflashed about 100 times. i've had my car flashed more times than i can remember, been dyno tuned 3 times with 3 different setups, and haven't had any problems.

Not sure if your mod list is what you plan to get or what you have but you're last mod is an Ecutek reflash. If you have paid the initial 650 for that reflash you now have a licensed version of their software. So when you make hardware changes like an fmic or want a custom tune (say 100 octane) you can go to any authorized Ecutek tuner and have them reflash it again for around $175.00 (depending on the tuner).

If you do not go directly to a tuner for the reflash and dyno tune, then you will have to specifically state all of the mods you currently have and "hope" the vendor has a tune that will work for you. In most cases they should be pretty close to the right tune for you . . . but if you are like me you may always wonder if they could have made a better tune with the car on the dyno or on the road while they custom tuned it.

Based on http://www.ecutek.com/pricing/ I would say GT Motorsports, XS Engineering or ESX should have you covered down in So Cal.

Whether they take into account you having a FMIC or not would depend on if you tell the sales staff that or not at the time of purchase (along with what octane fuel your going to use).

As for standalone, there are several and that boils down to how hardcore your aiming to go. You can go plug and play ala Hydra, Link, AEM etc or wire in ala TEC, Motec, Haltec, Autronic etc etc.
