opinions on S-AFC

I'm thinking about getting the S-AFC for my N/A 98 impreza 2.5rs. I know its a quality product, but I just wanted to see if anyone was running this on their Subaru or had any opinions. plus...the ej25 is not on Apexi's site. Will I be able to find a decent wiring diagram?

Thanks in advance,
Luke

There are a great many people running AFCs on 98 Imprezas. It works. If you do a full header-back and CAI, you can get some horsepower out of the setup. It will also help you run larger injectors if you choose to turbo later.

Yea, I've got CAI and Headerback, minus the highflow cat...should grab that sometime soon. Do you know anything about the complexity of wiring one of those?

thanks ban

Never done it myself. I don't know if there's a harnes for it or not. If not, it would only be a few wires to splice, nothing major.

Pretty easy to install. You just need to splice the MAF/MAP signal wire and tap into the TPS and tach output. The unit is automaticly zeroed out so its drivable right away once you configure the # of cylinders and air measurement device. Also the HKS SuperAFR is the same thing but with less "bells&whistles" and a lower price. Both very nice units.

Is it safe to say that you can't effectively tune with this with the O2 sensor voltage readout (essentially a narrowband air/fuel meter) ?

Right, no good. The narrow-band O2 is basically a digital signal, either rich or lean. You can only tune to stoich with it.

yes, id have to agree both are nice units. The HKS-SAFR is the most advanced if you compare both the Apexi S-AFC 1 and 2 units. Its cpu driven, has 11 points of adjustment, vs. 6 and 8 points for the Apexi units and also has a feature to stablize A/F mixture for atmospheric BOVs.
As far as "less bells&whistles", id rather say the HKS unit has more zing, less bling.
