Little Help Please!
I am brand new to tuning in general. Simply put I grew up with a mechanically challenged father and my step-dad is an old school racer (Stoped racing in the late 70's). He doesn't know much about modern electronics(ie. ECU Engine Management). But from my Step I am learning a lot about cars except the electronic parts. I bought the STI because it was a dream that I managed to accomplish, now I am looking to take it further. I am looking at TurboXS Utec Engine Management but as my current knowledge goes would only be able to use premade maps. Where can I look to find the information needed to become fluent in this area? I don't want to blow up my car and my current target is 400+ Horsepower with Engine Management being my first stage along with other minor stuff.

You didn't fill out your Location or Car fields in your member Profile so we don't know what year STi you own or if there are competent tuners in your area.
The Cobb Tuning AccessPORT is a popular engine management mod for WRX and STi owners. They have off-the-shelf maps for downloading and several tuners around the country now have the ProTUNER package which allows custom tuning for their customers. The AccessPORT allows up to 10 individual tuning maps to be stored, readily available for switching between them for different stages of tune for track use, race gas, valet mode, etc.
There is also the EcuTek reflash for the STi and many tuners around the country have been using this system for a few years now.
Vishnu Performance Systems offers both the EcuTek reflash and the XEDE piggyback, the latter having the capability to store two maps.
For serious performance tuning, the minimum equipment necessary would probably be an accurate boost gauge and a wideband O² sensor such as the LM-1 from Innovate Motorsports.
Unless you are planning to make a career out of tuning cars, I would suggest going to an experienced Subaru tuning shop and let them perform a safe tune on your car.

This is the kid that has a Black STi... no yellow WRX. Might know you though. I have no idea where to find a good tuner and it is starting to push my nerves.
yeah, i am trying to figure out the best full engine management ECU to use and where near by i will be able to tune it at. and need to find out quick as i will probably be needing it soon!
i think i overheard someone mentioning some place in PA that has an awd dyno and is good with subaru. but can't remember the name.
