Question Intake Help

I was thinking about putting in an AEM or K&N cold air intake into my 04 WRX. But after speaking with a guy at my local shop, he tells me that there can be issues with the engine light going off or "minor hicups"...no damage or anything just an inconvenience. Has anyone heard about this or had any experience with this on?

Thanks
