The ECU tuning does not reset from battery disconnect although ECUs that haven't been reflashed with aftermarket maps may have certain parameters like the ignition advance multiplier reset to a less aggressive number. That will re-learn by driving the car.

Both the factory and custom ECU mapping or reflashes are not lost by battery power loss or disconnect, if that is what you are asking. No need to fear that every time you work on your sound system and disconnect the battery that your custom, dyno-tuned ECU map is lost.

Tell your brother to unplug his home computer and that it will loose all the files and programs on it......see how he thinks about that.

(Of course we all know that the information stored on the home computer will be fine.)

The tuning persay is not lost(ROM data) but the RAM is dumped and the ECU will learn its new RAM.People with Cobb AP will notice if the battery is disconected the real-time map will be cleared. All OBDII ECU have a learning feature like this and adapt to their enviorment. So he is right in a sense as maybe you two were not on the same wavelength.
