does the ecu use water temp for ignition timing
i was wondering if the ecu on subarus uses the water temp to determine ignition timing. i read somewhere that a particular ecu chip would get rid of stop and go ignition retard which leads me to believe so. im asking because i would like to install an aftermarket temp gauge but i realized that might cause problems. by the way its a 2000 rs if that matters.

Car Info: 2016 Acura RDX ... meh. Um, nice subwoofer?
It uses a knock sensor. Water temp is a notoriously bad way to determining ignition timing... talk about a slow feedback system.
