APv1 doesn't work?

Okay, so I connected the 2 green connectors for the "test connection" on my 06wrx and the check engine light was blinking. Then I plugged my AP in after putting the key into the "on" position and the AP just showed black squares instead of text. I bought the cable to connect
it to the computer and the AP won't even turn on. Is it possibly dead because I never got a 5V charger with it because it came with the car and the previous owner told me I don't need to charge it. I'm thinking of just selling this AP and buying a v2 one at this point.

there is also a blue/white (depending on your year car) connector that you are supposed to plug in under the dash after the green ones

idk if that would solve your problem
