Apex'i S-AFC II???

Hey, I just got a 2002 wrx. What is the purpose of having this computer? What does it do? How do you install? I know nothing about this and would like to know more, or at least know that I could put this in myself. Thanks!

Hey, my friend just put one of those in his Saturn the other night. It's for monitoring all sorts of stuff and tuning fuel/air mix for max power at certain places in the band.

Seems kinda complicated to program the thing. We are trying to figure it out ourselves. I can let you know when we have it mastered.

For a WRX/STi I'd stay away from the S-AFC. There are better alternatives out there.

The AFC allows you to adjust fuel to your motor. It does this by tricking the ECU into thinking there is less or more air going in. I've used them before on my MR-2 because at the time it was the best way of compensating for bigger injectors short of going to a full stand alone ECU. There are other dangers associated w/ it because the AFC doesn't allow you to adjust timing yet timing is affected when you use it so be careful.

P.S. Apex's website has downloads for instructions and wiring

Avoid the SAFC. Just get a reflash. Trust us.

why ? because of the timing ?

can you explain, 'cause I'm likely to purchase this product.

So what would be the best short term solution for me to richen/lean my AFR, before having ECU reflashed ? Because I planned to have Ecutek at the end of the year.

thanks.

The ECU will adjust long-term fuel trim around the AFC. Reflashing avoids this problem. Their are also issues like Mister2 said, where "fooling" the ECU into thinking it is flowing a different amount of air than it really is causes it to change timing, which can have poor effects on performance and even cause detonation. the short-term solution is not to change your fueling until you can control it properly. It's never a good idea to take shortcuts in tuning with a WRX.

SAFC=HONDUH USERS... alot of other tuners use the afc also and its not a bad thing to use, but for the wrx, like mr 2 said, there are better alternatives...
