04 & 03 ECUs

Could not find this on search.

Are 2003 wrx and 2004 wrx ECUs interchangable?

For example, can I throw a stock '03 ECU into a 2004 wrx & have everythign work? (and vice versa - '04 ECU into a 2003 wrx)

This has been discussed on a few other boards

There should not be a reason why it doesn't work, since they are the same engine and everything, but........I know the 04's use a dual processor (possible different harness/sensors)

I don't think anyone has actually tried to do it yet....which is why we don't have the answer

I don't know if they are directly interchangeable (hardware wise) but I know a lot of ECU reflashers out there use the 03 map on the new 04 ECU's (software) because of the OL/CL issues.

I would try calling and asking someone like COBB or Vishnu Perfomance.

you can interchange them but you might throw a cell(i dont think so but it might happen). So go ahead if you really want to. This is both of them being stock...

I swapped in a 02 ECU into my 04 WRX when I was trying to diagnose a problem. Ran fine and I romped on it for about 40mins.

It might throw a cel down the road but it didn't for me when i had it in.
