Getting Killed on the Highway
was on the highway today and saw a wrx and a jeep racin..i think the jeep was a liberty sumthin i duno exactly
anyways wrx was gettin smoked...and the jeep jus kept pullin consistent...
is the awd power loss really that bad???
when i get my wrx i really dont wanna be gettin pulled on by big suv's
i kno wrx's arent highway racers...or anything from a roll, possibly not even drag cars..but wow thats pretty bad that say a 14.2 1/4 gets smoked on the rolling...

Yeah, those big engines with a lot of torque really can pull up top. The WRXs poor highway power is a combination of it's turbo and it's gearing. The slightly higher drivetrain loss brought on by AWD doesn't help either.
yeah i kno...i kno it wasnt a hemi tho....it wasnt the new version
can that big jeep handle in the twisties tho??? lol
if i do get a wrx i will be gettin it for the handling factor...
then if i get beat ill just ask if they wanna try the twisties

New turbo
injectors
fuel pump
up-pipe
turbo back exhaust
ECU reflash
Much power.
The stock WRX is weak as a kitten on the highway. Almost anything with 1.8 liters or more of displacement can pull away from you unless you downshift to 4rth and bury the pedal. AWD drivetrain loss is indeed a big factor, as is the extreme "gas saver" 5th gear; also, the turbo is extremely reluctant to spin up in 4th and 5th gear, limited by the ECU which is trying to save you gas at that point.
A reflash and a turboback exhaust (way below the $3000 worth of changes mentioned above) will "fix" this problem quite well; now you'll be able to hang with the 3.5l and 4.0l cars. Just don't challenge any Corvettes -- on the highway, there truly is no replacement for displacement.

The liberty isn't available with the hemi, only the grand cherokee. It is 330hp and 375lb-ft. If they had the 2wd version with the hemi I could maybe see it walking a rex. The Hemi cherokee weighs in at a 4850lb curb weight. http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=3
If they did make a hemi liberty that would be pretty nuts because the liberty is 1000lbs less than the cherokee
I've seem a Magnum R/T dyno at 304hp to the ground. That's about 16 lbs per hp for the 2wd version of the hemi jeep using the same motor. A stock rex puts around 165 to the ground? 3180lbs for the sedan.. That's 19lbs per hp. Pretty easy to see how it could get walked. Just guessing, but maybe an extra 50hp loss if they get the 4wd jeep, which would put it at just about 19lbs per hp, which would be an even match.
If you want to be a fanboy and buy something to race minivans and SUVs go get a honda. If you're looking for something that's straight line and highway fast you're barking up the wrong tree. Get a used camaro SS and hop it up if you want highway fun. Hell, one of my buddies has nothing but an intake lid on his SS and is trapping about 111. His brother's firehawk is running 10s with less than $1000 worth of nitrous, and not much else.

Ha, saw a twin turboed dodge ram 3500 duelly walk right by me on the highway, more like run by me. But then again its got two turbos and i only have one =( the best part about it was the license plate reading "URSOSLOW" and the Myrtle beach airbrush job of two turbos with type that said "twin turbo power" gotta love the cheeze gotta respect the power.
