yellow transmission fluid

I just bought a 1999 subaru forester. I took it to my oil change place and the transmission fluid is yellow. I have never heard of or seen yellow trans fluid. Does anyone know what this is? It does not appear burnt or old, but a nice yellow color. What kind of trans fluid is yellow?
Well if it's auto I'd certainly expect the transmission fluid to be the usual red or pink if it's not burnt. If it were burnt it would be brownish and have a burned smell.
In the automatics the front differential has its own fluid that is separate from the auto trans fluid. This is conventional gear oil and will be light yellow in color. Perhaps your shop is looking at the diff instead of the trans- do they even realize the two are separate?
