Heh I didnt say there unbreakable
And you hit the nail on the head about powerbraking the auto
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree because I beat the snot out of my tranny everyday... I know its going to break, but it hasnt yet
Obviously you know alot more about them than I do, but I know I have been pounding on mine for over 25k miles so I just cant agree.
Wanna rebuild mine when it falls apart

The first thing you notice when you take one apart is that the input shaft from the bell housing travels about 10in or more before theres the first bearing. The first bearing is on the opposite side of the front open diff and the small shafts that lead to the front axles. So all of the flexing from the diff and the front axles is placed on the one small bearing. Instead of using a bearing on both sides like other designs they only use a bearing on one side of it which would put alot of stress on the bearing since the input shaft has more leverage since it starts so far from the bearing. Then the initial gears are very tiny. Tiny in not only the teeth width but the actual total diameter of the gears themselves. If the casing had been more machined out on both sides of picture http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...d/fd652441.jpg then maybe they could have used a thicker toothed gear or maybe even one with a taller tooth to help spread out the surface area of it and spread out more of the lbs per square inch that they would be seeing under load. The front bearings could also be larger, more like the bearing towards the rear of the gears in the pic above. At least those are some observations. I'm trying to get the rebuild walkthrough completed in between packing up and moving back to the US so it might not be finished until I finish my move.
