I bought an 05 2.5 rs a couple months ago and there is a strange noise that keeps getting worse. It happens at a couple different times when driving. The first is when I am in first gear and I take it up to about 4,000 before shifting into second, when I depress the clutch pedal to shift, there is a brief metallic whine that fades away as I let out on the clutch to shift into second. The other time it happens (this is much worse) is when Im in 2nd gear anywhere above 3,500 rpm and I let off the gas. As the car loses momentum the metallic whine kicks in and continues to whine and then fades away as the revs drop below 2,500. This doesnt happen all the time but i would say more than half of the time...someone please tell me what this is so I can end it once and for all because its driving me nuts...I am also pretty sure that the part making the noise is a spinning part of some sort judging by the sound because it sounds like an old fan that is wobbling because its loose. Wierd analogy but its the best I could come up with. Please help.

 

an educated guess would be sufficient if nobody really knows what im talking about.

 

If I had to guess, I would say the throwout bearing is going bad. It contains a bearing that wears out over time.
