Tranny
If anyone could give me some advice I would greatly appreciate it. The other day While downshifting 4-3 3 gear literally blew up. It is no longer there. I bought it to the Subaru dealership where I had gotten clutch/flywheel replaced about 4months ago do to shutter and no warrenty hassle. Now they say I voided my warrenty and need a new tranny, a rebuild would not be a good idea, and it is going to be $3900. What other options are there that may be more reasonable, or if it is going to cost that much what else is a possibility? Thanks for teh advice, Matt

That's a hell of a downshift. I'd suggest looking at the aftermarket gear sets, and then having it rebuilt by a private shop, if you can find a good one to do it. Such a set will not only get you stronger gears, but better gear ratios as well. You'll find plenty of threads on them here.
Just curious... But you knew going in there with a boost controller would do that right? I have heard some dealers are cool with intake / exaust but never a boost controller as far as I have heard. Tough break though.. good luck with the new one...

Yep, boost controllers are almost always going to void your powertrain coverage. As for getting the new gearbox, I would highly recommennd going the extra mile to get a 6MT. Gearsets aren't really the answer in a WRX, as the real weakness is case flex. It's far more important to learn how to take care of a powerful AWD gearbox. Unless you get the 6 speed, which so far seem damn near indestructible.

Relative to a used WRX gearbox, yes. Relative to a hardened gearset or dogbox, not really. But given it's near indestructible design, the nice short, close ratios with decent freeway 6th gear, it's well worth it, especially given the likelihood that if you broke one WRX gearbox, you'll beak more.
Auto warranties CANNOT be voided. Get that word out of your head. If the dealer or the SOA rep used the word "voided", you should file complaints against them with BBB, FTC, and your state's attorney general.
They can only deny individual claims on a case-by-case basis. No more.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a 6MT installed for less than $7000 when you count all the extra parts you have to buy to make it work. In my opinion you should just sell your car and buy an STi if you want to spend that kind of money.

I have to go along with Silver Bullet 1, the six speed although head and shoulders over any other alternative is really expensive and an extensive mod. Call Rallispec as Silver Bullet suggested, both Dave and Gregg are very experienced and prices are comparatively fair. I've been a customer of Rallispec for over a year and always leave there satisfied.
