STi short shifter bushings

Are the bushings on the STi factory 5MT short throw shifter any different/harder than the stock bushings? Or are they the same part?

Essentially the same, maybe a bit larger/stiffer but not to any significant degree. You will still benefit from replacing them with a set of Kartboy bushings. That's what I did with my STi shifter.

the sti short shifter bushings are harder than the stock ones. the difference between them and the stock wrx is about the same as the difference between them and kartboys.

i have a sti short shifter assembly and i swapped out the bushing for kartboys- there's a noticeable difference- not night and day though.

How did you find out? Did you compare the stock bushing to the sti shifter bushing?

Pull your bushings from your STi shifter. If you can compress or deform them in any way with your fingers, they are more compliant (softer) than the Kartboy bushings. The Kartboy pieces are not made of rubber but some sort of nylon or Delrin material (not sure what material Kartboy uses).

The stock WRX bushings are as soft as marshmallows, relatively speaking. These pieces have so much give that I'm surprised the shifting action didn't have a more 'rubbery' feel to it.

Yeah, but thats comparing the OEM RS bushing to the STi bushing. I'm talking about the WRX bushing compared to the STi.

Theres not much difference between the RS Bushing and the WRX one. Just replace it with the kartboy.

I've installed about 20 sets of bushings and the WRX ones are exactly the same as the RS and to tell the truth I think the STi ones are exactly the same too. I think the degree of softness has to due with age. For all intents and purposes the OEM bushings are soft or so close that it they can be considered the same. The KB, Cobb and Cusco bushings are considerably harder than the OEM ones.
