It is EXTREAMLY easy, and you should do it yourself. Just:

1) remove the two center console plastic pieces, (the one with the armrest and the one around the shifter itself; both are held in just with plastic clips).

2) There is one bolt holding the shifter to the shift linkage; remove that bolt.

3) The shifter is held in the transmission "pivot point" with friction alone. Give it a good yank and it should come out.

4) Give the new shifter some good force (like smacking it down with a 2x4 ) and it should pop right in to the pivot point.

5) reverse steps 2 and 1.

That's it. Really easy. Honestly, if you have the mechanical inclination to jack up a car, or remove a tire, you can do this. Give it a try.
