Short Shifter - Why Do I Want One?

So short shifters seem to be one of the most popular mods out there and I'm a little confused as to why. I totally get replacing the bushings and I'm about to do so. But why do I care if the stick is 1" shorter and the throw is a little shorter? I must be missing something here, tell me what it is!

Thanks guys,

Ty

In my experiece, it made the car more fun to drive, and I felt more connected. It may not be as good as doing the suspension or engine work, but it's not too expensive and it adds to the "feel" of the car, so to speak. It's really a lot more subjective than most mods, the results are less quantifiable.

Well for a +10 shorty combo ~ use the STI short throw combined with the Kart Boy ~ can you say... snick, snick, snick...? Tight, quick, precise. Did it make me faster? Nope. Does it make me drive better? Nope. Do I love it? YES.

a ssk and all the associated bushings (front and rear shifter bushings, pivot joint bushings) help to get rid of all the slop and free play the stock shifter has. just makes for a more solid feeling shift (more "positive), and a tighter shifter. not to mention it's a pretty cheap mod.

It just feels sportier (to me, at least) when the throws have been shortened and the effort to move the lever is increased a bit. Internally, the transmission still shifts the same.
