Just got a new 2010 Sti it came with a Sti short shifter but the lever is really long feels like shifting a bus. was wondering if i could just get like a kartboy lever and bushings for a shorter lever if it would work? thanks

I love my kartboy ss, replace all the bushings when you do it. It makes a big difference and shortens the shift throw nicely/

I am interested in this as well. I like the throw just not the height of the shifter.

I had one for about 2 years, then went back to stock. The added noise and the tough time getting into 1st gear didn't make up for the slightly shorter throw.

Sounds like it wasn't installed properly. Often, a little bit of superfluous metal needs to be ground with a dremel to keep the shift linkage (next to the shifter) from coming into contact with it. Pretty sure I used a DIY from Scoobymods and they pointed this out.

Also, there's a bolt that goes through the SS that will buzz if you overtighten it.

The KB short shifter shouldn't add but a touch of noise (at idle you may get a slight buzz) if installed properly and it definitely shouldn't make it hard to shift into 1st! That is really bad (for the tranny) if it does!

you know, I've thought about using a shift **** as a tap handle, but never the other way around

If you put a SS on an STi and a smaller lever, it's realllly reaaalllly short. Unless you're into that sort of thing anyways.

It was properly installed, using the same Scoobymods how-to you are referring to. The noise comes from the fact that the kartboy shifter is hollow, while the stock one has a rubber core to damp down vibrations. I ground quite a bit of metal away from that front-left corner, but there is contact further down with the tunnel itself and the shifter.

Sound like you overtightened the pivot bolt on the shifter. I did the same thing at first and it transmitted alot of whinning noises from the tranny. I loosened the bolt and wallah...no more noise or vibration. That bolt only needs to be tightened down to about 9lbs. (not much at all).
