Shifting an automatic

Its not that bad for the car, but I think its probably faster to let the car shift on its own. I don't have an automatic, but I have owned them in the past and it has always been faster to let the car shift on its own. But I have never driven an automatic transmission in an wrx.

unless you have a need to hold it in gear in high rpm / partial throttle situations, there's no need to shift manually. I often find myself keeping my WRX in 3 while climbing mountain roads so it doesn't hunt between 3rd and 4th gear, but that's about the only driving I do that's not in D. I've noticed it shifts much quicker in D than manually. for auto-x or track days, i could see an advantage to shifting an AT manually.
