Shifting an automatic
I own an auto 2002 2.5rs and have come across posts on this board about people manually shifting their 4EATS. By this i mean starting in 1 and working it all the way up to D.
Could this cause any problems and is it bad to do? Ive seen people talk about shifting their automatics this way but i was just wondering if it can cause problems with the transmission.

Its not that bad for the car, but I think its probably faster to let the car shift on its own. I don't have an automatic, but I have owned them in the past and it has always been faster to let the car shift on its own. But I have never driven an automatic transmission in an wrx.

unless you have a need to hold it in gear in high rpm / partial throttle situations, there's no need to shift manually. I often find myself keeping my WRX in 3 while climbing mountain roads so it doesn't hunt between 3rd and 4th gear, but that's about the only driving I do that's not in D. I've noticed it shifts much quicker in D than manually. for auto-x or track days, i could see an advantage to shifting an AT manually.
