NEED HELP!!! transmission sound

ok fellow Subie owners, my 2002 wrx bug eye, has this whine in first gear thats similar to reverse. BUT, i only hear the whine in first gear if my foot is DOWN on the clutch. the noise completely disappears wen i let off the clutch. any help? the whine sounds jue like reverse.

is this normal?

p.s. im PRAYING its not the throwout bearing because im a broke college student. haha. and i know its an expensive job....

any help is appreciated!

I haven't replaced it because my car runs good with no issues. the transmission feels great too. my clutch is good too. no slips, still grabs easy. jus don't want to blow hella money on something that isn't necessary.ive heard tons of different things...
-bug eye transmissions are loud
-the noise im hearing is normal
-the noise is from my throwout bearing

im jus wondering even if the noise IS my throwout bearing, does that mean I need to replace right away? or do I have like a year or so till it goes out on me? becuz I don't mind the noise, its jus the scare of having my car break down

Basically since its a bearing it has grease in it and once the grease wears out that bearing is gonna go to hell... if u can find someone to replace it for pretty cheap I would the bearing itself is only like $15... call your regular mechanic if u have one and see what they say

sounds like a throwout bearing. if you were hearing the noise when you were NOT touching or pressing on the clutch pedal, i would say its your throwout bearing retainers or pivot joint. would also be a pilot bearing possible. I replaced my clutch and neglected to clean and re lube pivot point and retainers. now it makes noise when at idle and off the pedal. if you were going to replace a bad throwout bearing yourself, that would be the ultimate budget saver. but if you dont feel comfortable with it, take it to a shop. GL!

thanks! yea I dnt trust myself haha. ima jus have them replace the clutch wit the exedy oem replacement. and make sure they relube everything real well, including the things uve stated. my clutch had about 90k miles on it. I jus hate how the bearings can go out before the clutch itself.

do you have any engine maintenance to perfrom that require pulling the engine? if so, pull the engine instead dropping the tranny. some drop tranny, some pull engine. it really depends what you are trying to accomplish
