The latest official "unofficial" gear oil recommendation
A local Subaru Master Tech recently suggested to me Mobil 1 hypoid gear oil. The only thing I've found that matches this on Mobil's site is the Mobile 1 HD 80w90 Gear Oil. There's an HD LS, but it seems mostly meant for LSD applications (hence the "LS" I'd guess).
Anyhow it seems to claim many of the protective abilities of the Redline Shockproof, BUT this Mobil 1 HD stuff is GL-5... thus making your warranty happy.
I'll try it and let you know. It might be a while though. (Has anyone else tried it yet?)
