Intro to Me
Hey, all. I'd love to say I've been lurking here for a long time, but I really have been watching this board for the last couple weeks. I'm getting in the market to buy a new car, and I thought I'd check out the STi, and some of the forums associated with it.
So, Hi!
BTW, I test drove an STi today. When the turbo kicked in, I was honestly surprised. I was putting along, thinking "yeah, this is nice." and when the tach hit about 3k, my thoughts changed to "Holy Sh...!"
Anyway, I'm seriously considering the STi, but I had a quick question for those who are in the know and those who have one. I noticed that the shifter (which I thought the sticker said was a short-throw, but in retrospect probably wasn't) was quite notchy, in that it was almost too difficult to push it into gear. The car had about 80 some-odd miles on it, so it's not unreasonable to suggest it was beat on, but I'm just wondering if this is normal for these cars. My previous experience with MT's was with Fords & Hondas. The Hondas, I could shift with two fingers. The Fords were a little more difficult but still not this bad (until they started to go out). Anyways, any help you guys can provide would be appreciated.

thats how they are dude, my 05 is the same way, and i belong to imprezawrxsti.com and everyone there agrees it's normal (i was worried too). The nice thing is that holy **** only gets more holy as the motor breaks in. When u first start it and its colder u gotta use a lil gas to get it into second.....it gets better and especially when its warmed up. I liked that notchy feeling more than the warmer loose feeling (obvioulsy not the not getting into gear part but the notchiness during shifting). There is this bushing kit you can get that is suppose to make the shifter feel better than s2000 and make shifting amazingly pleasureable so I think im going to purchase the kit.

That sounds exactly like what I would need. Thank you, and everyone else, for all your help. I appreciate it.
