IF my car had 450whp, how should I upgrade tranny? (was: transmission help!!!!!!!)

Some say it's not so much the gears fault as it is transmission case flex... case in point, look at an STI 6speed tranny... reinforcing ribs all over that sucka. As long as the gears mesh nicely and stay square to eachother, they should be able to take a lot. I don't know if anyone is offering heavy duty 5speed cases, or if there's ways to stiffen them externally...

I've read that the RA gears aren't as wonderful as everyone would hope them to be. However, I've heard nothing but good about PPG, you can get them with synchros too. ~$5000 installed, then you can make however much power on your car that you can afford

Yeah if you're planning to go with a newer expensive WRX you might as well just go for the STI and save yourself the hassle.

But if you're going for a bugeye then you'll probably want to go with the PPGs.

man o man! ok who has what gears in their own rex. Thats what i want to know. i have a bugeye 02, 248 whp just recently had second gear sound like a hand grenade. i want to know who actually had experience with certain gearsets. NOT what they think they know about them or read about on racer sites claiming. im leaning sti r/a's because of price like everyone else. but would a 6mt swap be better?? because with a gear set yeah your trans is good to go. but what about axles driveshafts and diff'sv etc.??? im not trying to sound like an azz but i would rather have help than hear about know it alls argue it out. this site is for helping those who dont know. so if you dont know listen to those who do . thanks guys for time and consideration
