Look up the Magnunson-Moss Warranty Act. Check this link:

I have been told dealerships cannot void your warranty because you have modified your car. They can only do this if they can prove the modifications were the direct cause of the failure. The burden of proof is on them!

I recommend you contact an attoney that specializes in Automotive Wartranty Law (Commonly reffered to as Lemon Law Attorneys) and get heir opinion.

Forget the new tranny. You can get new gears for $1500 from ralli spec. You can get a gimmie gear set for $3k, heck you can get a used V5 tranny for $3k. All much better and cheaper the na plain jane WRX tranny. Hey here's an idea, get a used WRX tranny for under a grand!

just replace the gears with a better set that is stronger and has a better ratio. And $6500 from the dealer, wtf??? Cant they just replace the broken first gear and not have to do the whole tranny.
