Help.. sti reverse lockout stuck at engage

Its not my car but a car i was looking at to buy, and the reverse lockout is stuck in the engage mode. how much does it take to fix this? and has this happened to anyone else.

I have a hard time getting into 5th, and I don't need to pull up lockout to get into reverse ... what's going on? Please help.

Reverse lock is a cable. So somewhere, the cable went boo-boo. I bet it is under the car. You can jack the car up and there is a goldish color assy that is connected to the cable. Right where the shifter linkages connect to the shiffter forks. Check it and make sure it is still attached there. Or, it could be on the shifter itself. Take the boot off and you will see how it engages and disengages so just check to trouble there.

The cable must have a kink as the default is lockout

May involve a cable replacement (may be easier)
