i use it in my 96 impreza L awd, with 130K on it, it used to grind into EVERY gear, put in 3.7 quarts of syncromesh, it does not grind at all, even if i jam it into gears when im racing...unbelieveable! i was almost gonna buy a new tranny! but now...forget that!

I have'nt seen it posted in any thread. It says in the manual thta '04 WRX use 80-90w not 75-90w. So the people worried about using 80-90w should be ok. I'm going to try the syncro + 80-90 castrol Hypoy C right now. I hope for the best. Some people worry about getting warranty work done on the tranny after mixing oils. If you drain the tranny, fill it up with straight 80w-90 and take the car in how will they know? Is Hypoy c 80-90w good for the rear end. thanks

Don't know about swapping the fluid, I'd guess that unless you got the vast majority of the old stuff out (probably difficult if not impossible), it'd still test funny (I'm guessing).

Hypoy C should be fine for the rear, since the rear diff is a sealed unit, and all you need is good lubrication of the proper viscosity. But really the slicker the better back there. I used the same mix you're contemplating in the tranny, and Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in the rear diff.

man 11 bucks a quart for that gm crap but it works wonders, if i were rich enough i put it all in even my diff

Wow, somehow this thread has evaded my eyes until now. I have the same problem with my 04 wrx and my only real complaint with the car is the tranny. Maybe after i do this tranny oil change, I wont have anything to complain about!

It did 'nt take long at all. But if you have the 4 point lower control arm brace be ready for a mess. So far I notice I dont have to be at a complete stop to put it in first and ig's easier to go into reverse.

4th gear?

it seems as i punch the gas, shifting from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, are perfect. i can shift these gears as fast and at as high a rpm as possible ie. redline...when i shift from 3rd to 4th even at 4500 rpm's there is a slight grind...is this a syncro grinding...4th to 5th are great also...downshifting grid only happens going from 5th to 4th...should i mix the gm syncromesh with my gear oil...75w-90, the car is an 03 wrx with 21,000 miles...this is really my only complaint about the car...

also.....if i were to use 75w90synthetic valvoline with penzoil synchromesh, would it still have teh same positive imporovement as 80w90 valvoline?

you can go ahead and use 75w90 or 80w90 synthetic or non synthetic. It seems that the majority of people are agreeing that REGULAR oil is better than synthetic for our wrx trannies. Regardless of what you use, adding atleast 1 quart of syncromesh will do wonders.
