Favorite Clutch
OK So I will be buying a new clutch/flywheel soon since my hyper single crapped out on me. I was curious what your favorite clutches are. I have heard that ACT are junk but I have also heard they kick ***. so please reply to this post with
Favorite clutch brand,
Model.
Disc
Pressure plate.
Flywheel brand and weight.
I am looking for something that will hold alot of power and still be drivable but also hold up really well.
Also If anyone is interested I have a stock STi clutch/flywheel with about 35k on it when I took it out it was not slipping and was never abused.
And I have my cusco hyper single for sale.with about 27-30k on it. it just started slipping last week in 4th and 3rd gear under boost other than that it has not slipped on me it has slipped a total of 5 times for a short time. I am not sure if you can resurface it and put a new disc in or not make offers on both

OEM clutch is good....Im about 50whp over stock on my 04 STi and the stocker is still holding strong.
When mine finally dies I will either put in another stocker, an ACT street or an RPS....Ive done lots of research and those are the best options for a non track, non drag car (aka good for daily driver while holding good power). I'd also keep the stock flywheel and just get it resurfaced.
Contact Ed or Adam at EQ Tuning - they just opened a shop right in your neighborhood (in Fairfield).

LOL sorry Im from Portland Oregon and all I have ever heard of down here is DBTuned and a couple others but not LIC.
Whats a good price for labor to install a clutch? Im to lazy to do it myself even though I have access to a lift.

i really do enjoy my Spec Stage 2 clutch on my 99RS (bone stock engine). i'm certain that a Spec Stage 2 is a bit lower than you'd want to go if you're looking at big power numbers. you might consider a Stage 3 or 3+ from Spec. the Spec pressure plate is LIGHTER than stock, as per the clutch pedal feel. it makes it soooo much easier to drive.
i have an ACT Stage 1 clutch on my 1986 Mr2 (bone stock NA engine). the clutch pedal is 3 times harder than stock, and i've heard RUMOR that the pressure plate is far too firm and will destroy thrust washers inside the engine over time - i CANNOT verify this information, but just giving due warning. honestly, people hated driving my Mr2 because the clutch was so firm, but once you get used to it, its a blast.
all the other clutches i've dealt with, were OEM. and, as you can guess, the 2 clutches that i've upgraded were bloody freaking overkill for the power my engine was putting out. that was purely on purpose.
i sincerely do suggest getting a clutch with higher torque handling capacity than what your STi puts down - its a blessing! and, of ACT and Spec, i do prefer the Spec clutches overall.
i paid $400 to have my Spec clutch installed - i supplied the clutch and pressure plate and my flywheel was in perfect condition, so it did not need to be resurfaced (a $40 task).
