I'm looking forward to purchase a Legacy Turbo, But I'm Just wondering the Stock 5AT can handle how many horse power and torque? well I'm pretty tired of driving a stick shift to commute... and I'm planning to modify the car when I got it...
Thanks for any input...

the 5EAT can definitely hold the horsepower and torque. It will suck a bit of power, but the 5EAT should be nice and strong. A lot of people will tell you that Subaru automatic transmissions are more sturdy then the manuals (though the Subaru autos suck out quite a bit of power).
Be warned, though, that you should probably test drive the car with each transmission before you buy. The sportshifting on the 5EAT is not faster then if you were to shift an automatic transmission by hand, so it may be too sluggish for you (or it might be just right).

When I test drove the auto, I found it slow enough to shift that it would cause the car to push through the corner because it took so long to engage the lower gear then the turbo hit when I was almost at the apex. That caused the front to push. With a 5 speed I in control all the time. If your in traffic, put it in nutral or find some back roads to drive to work.

The auto will be slower and feel slower compared to the stick. I have the STI shifter in my 05GT because the stock shifter feels spongy. The STI is better, but still not as good as the Skunk2 short throw shifter in both of my Honda Civics. I have questioned the dealer, How do I know they installed the STI shifter. It's the only option I can't see.

I voted for the 5EAT
Personally I grew tired of shifting my 5 speed WRX around town. So I opted for the 5EAT in my 05 Legacy GT. How much speed do you really need. Fast is fast. I don't really need crazy fast. Fast is good enough for me. I know that I can smoke almost any other car off the line with my 5EAT equipped Legacy GT. That is once I exceed the 1,000 mile break-in period!
Truth be told this decision comes down to a person choice. 5 MT or 5 EAT? There really is no bad choice in this fabulous car!

i am not a fan of automatics-
i drove the car for three days just trying to find the right selling points to this transmission- as most customers here in hawaii favor stick.
but i have to admit after driving it i like the fact that you have the choice between 3 modes. full on auto/sportshift/and manual shift-
the manual shift is kinda cool(even though it delays) because you can drop it in 1st gear when slowing down to a stop(some auto sticks don't allow that).
for me its foreign because i drive a 6 speed everyday- i missed the clutch in the legacy-
but due to the market this car is aiming for the automatic is a nice and refreshing alternative to those looking for a luxury car with excellent performance without the xtra work of a clutch.
thats my $.02
