Can a manual transmission be bench tested?
13 years on the original drive train, how cool is that?
Now I guess it is time to pay the piper.
It became extremely difficult to put it into any gear. Other times no problems at all so I brought it in for repair. After replacing the flywheel and other items in the housing which did show signs of wear but were in reasonable condition they also replaced the oil pan gasket while it was all open. So far it was $1400.
Getting it all back together, it had exactly the same symptoms and it is recommended that I replace the transmission to the tune to $700. It sounds like a hack job but I am still confident that they are on the up-and-up. It will have the one year warranty.
Ok, with the transmission out, is there some why to bench test it before I invest in the rebuilt one? I just don't want them to install another one and then have the same problem.
Occam's razor suggests that it is going to turn out to be a cable problem instead.
