When I had that problem it was my tires.........

*ducks and runs away*

Is it high-pitched? Is it when he's doing a mild corner or a full lock (U-turn)?

Could be a PS pump......
Is the sound constant even when the steering wheel isn't moving (IE set in a corner, not changing steering angle)

My moms car gets that from time to time when turning to either steering wheel lock. Its usually a sign of low Power Steering fluid, in her case.

In her case, the sound is located directly in front of the driver. Is that where it is located in your dads car? If so, I'd check the PS fluid. Hopefully the pump isn't going.

And I think Sybir is being faceteous with his comment about the tires... as in, he gets a squeeling noise when going around corners from going too fast (he drives like a jackass sometimes )

I take exception to that, it's much more frequent than the above statement attests.

Anyways, if you can find out how severe of an angle he's at on the steering (full lock or lane change?) when he's hearing it, we can go from there. Does it sound like a belt squeal?
