RIP Darrel Russell
I watch these test pilots shoe-horn their bodies into these machines and with unwavering confidence propell themselves to 330 mph in 4seconds. Some people say that they are hicks and rednecks, some people laugh because they are not physical specimens, but in the end they are from an elite fraternity of speed, a brotherhood of horsepower and elaps-time. It was just another run for Darrel, a test of the clutch setting and fuel mixture, little did we know that this would be his last pass. As true warriors of another time long since gone, the gladiators would make their passes and claim their victories but all with a heavy heart. There was no champaign sprayed or high fives in victory lane, but a sence that someone was lost forever, but not forgotten. He died doing what he loved and he knew the risks envolved. He lived for the speed and his last pass was a beauty. Goodbye Darrel from one speed freak to another. You finally cut that perfect light my friend.

I think one of the most important things to remember about Darrell Russell is what a great person he was. From what all of the other drivers were saying is that he never had a bad thing to say about anyone and he was always smiling. This guy truly loved what he was doing. As horrible as it is all of these guys know that everytime they strap themselves into these cars they are taking a huge risk. Unfortunately every now and then something like this happens and really makes you realize what a dangerous sport it is evern though it is the greatest sport in my opinion. I remember back in 96 or 97 when Blane Johnson died in a Dragster as well. Its a shame when it happens to any driver but its even worse when it happens to a guy so young and just as he is really coming into his own. But as Funny Car driver Gary Scelzi said yesterday, Darrell Russell wouldn't want anyone to stop what they love doing because of this. He would want them all to continue on and that's what they will do.

Enjoyed him while he was here, will miss him cuz he's gone.
