Question about 3rd gear 2004 wrx

Several track buddies of mine have comented on the difficulty of my car's ability of getting into 3rd gear. They say that they can shift straight up from 2nd gear, whereas in my car, i actually have to "search" for it, as it doesn't shift properly? Again, this is for a 5mt 2004 wrx wagon. Am i losing several tenths on this almost missed shift?? thanks in advance to all intelligent replies...

i dont drag race, but my problem is more 4 to 5 in my 5 MT wrx. when im going 2 to 3, i basically just take the ball of my hand, and push up, let the shifter find its way back to the middle, and then keep pushing. 4 to 5 is what gives me trouble and i actually need to find the gear. but 2 to 3 for me is a breeze. keep in mind again that i dont drag race. but maybe it'll help!

You definitely are losing time if you're miss shifting. I had a similar problem in my 04' wrx but my friend helped me out. He told me to aim for the defroster button and just push it as hard as I can. I was super skeptical, but you know what, it worked! I really hate it when he's right. Be very careful doing this though! We built up to it. I started slow and worked my way up to fast. Not sure if this will help you, but it helped me so I thought that I would let you know. Good luck and be careful racing!

Why do you guys want to shift to 5th fast? You should not really need to shif to 5th fast. You should only need 1-4th. The only time you would need to, is if you had a 6speed.
