dumping puts a ton of strain on the drivetrain. i think slipping is just bad for the clutch.

the real question is. when slipping the clutch. and executing a perfect launch, if there is such a thing...shoudl you smell any clutch. i have tried a couple times. the first time it stunk. and then from there I adjusted and then got a pretty good launch but still smelled it thouguh only for a second. I guess Im asking if there is any smell with a propper launch with using the preload/slip method. Thanks guys

Me personally I launch the car at 5k...and shift every gear at 6k...and thats about it....make sure you are quick when shifting to 5th, because thats the toughest gear to shift at in order to get a good run... dont hesitate... but like I said its all practice and timing...sometimes I still hesitate in 5th gear, so its still all good...thats about it...hope that would help a little...Jose

there are alot of launching threads ont his forum use the search function. And if u "Dump" correctly it will not hurt your tranny. If you break traction, the traction will take all the inertia, if you bog the car cuz of the dump then your SOL. And dont keep the REV at a constant. You car is a WRX, you have to keep it at a rev between RPM, so your boost will build constantly, if you keep it at 5k rpm your not building boost.

from my experience, dumping the clutch at a high rpm on an STi actually causes wheelspin...

1st thing to do is set your DCCD all the way back (35/65)
2nd: MOST IMPORTANT, the key to launching an AWD car is not in the clutch, it's in the throttle, you have to make sure you balance NOT BOGGING with NOT SPINNING, but also keep the turbo on full boil. I find that if I feather the throttle b/w 4500-5000 that it doesnt build boost, but definitely moves it closer to 0 vacuum (an advantage)
3rd come off the clutch like you just stepped in dog sh*t(not slow, not fast)

you should hear a chirp from the rear tires, and that should be it

this netted me a 1.76 60ft on the stock tires, 1st time to the track with the car
