custom race
I still think that if you had taken enough time to actually TUNE out your rex- find what gives you the most flow, reroute piping and coolant lines for faster response all around (stock rex's have longer plumbing in general than they need so when you can get them all custom fit for maximum boost you'll be suprised). Keep in mind we're talkin twin t's so it would be fair if you had, ohhh say a 24-30 lb turbo with a nice liquid to air top mount and maybe even cams and heads possibly injectors and 4.11 diffs.
you'd be easily pushin 400 to the wheels and I guarantee you only a Z with the same amount of mods would have a chance cuz the Z i saw wasn't close to the rex's top end and I know the rex didn't have all that done to it. When you get that close it all comes down to gearing and those Zs have so much torque, they can drop the gears real low so they don't seem too quick until they actually get going. It'd be interesting to see the two race with both completely modified to the extreme weight reduced and all- a lightned rex could possibly get down below 2500lbs- that's down to only 6.25lbs per horse and thats lightning
