If I drag race my car how long will the stock clutch survive or will the transmission give out? Do I need to change the setting on the DCCD??? Please help

From: Ewa Beach, Hawaii...Current Best Time: 12.59 @ 107.48mph (108.47 best mph) in Hawaiis humid weather! w/ stock turbo&intercooler
Car Info: 2004 STi.....stock turbo/intercooler/cat-back, aftermarket intake/downpipe/piggyback
From my experience, the factory clutch is weaker than the transmission! Always remember if you want your clutch to last longer, try to spin the tires a little during launch instead of slipping the clutch! Do not under inflate the tires too much, and DO NOT try to heat them like up like slicks.....doing so shortens the clutch life abruptly!

At what RPM do you suggest I launch? If I change the clutch will the transmission be the weakest link????

I usually like to launch around 5,000 to 5,500 rpm's.

I wouldn't change the clutch unless you have too. The stock clutch is just fine the way it is, unless you have some major upgrades and are pushing some major horsepower.

I have close to 100 races on my stock clutch and so far so good. No problems. The STi tranny is supposedly very strong. Stronger than the wrx's tranny or so I've heard. I don't think anyone really knows how much power the STi tranny can take.

in my case..my tranny went out before the clutch..i had both replaced at 10,000 miles due to hard launching(i replaced clutch with another stock clutch)..alot of ppl on this board say that axles are the weekest link on sti's..on my car the tranny input shaft and the drive shaft were replaced..i think when your launching hard there really is no "weakest link"..just a matter of what will break first..since i had the clutch and tranny replaced i've been slipping the clutch whenever i drag the car..and been able to hit consistant 1.7 60' ft times with and occasional 1.6 here and there..but again after 15,000 miles my stock clutch started slipping and will soon be replaced with a exedy twin plate..from my expiriences id say invest in a good clutch and slip it rather than drop it..a 2,000 dollar clutch is alot cheaper than a 7,000 dollar transmission.

Wow that is amazing that your tranny went b.c they were rated really high. My stock clutch went out when i had about 20,000miles on it, but i think the tranny should not go out unless you dog your car 24/7 b.c i think the last time i read i thought i saw someone running about 600whp on the stock tranny.
