How to seperate 2.0L Engine/6MT Trans?
Ok, I swapped from auto to 6 speed with no problems. I'm going to be swapping my engine now and for the life of me cannot figure out mentally how I would separate the engine and trans. I'm also not sure if I should pull both engine and trans at the same time then separate or just separate then remove them separately. technically both may have to come out since I'll be changing the wire harness again
My thoughts are if I'm going to separate them first I would
1. remove starter
2. remove front axles (and drive shaft)
3. remove pitch mount and all attaching sensors/harnesses
4. remove slave master from transmission
5. remove bolts and separate the two
6. disconnect A/C lines
7. remove all front panels and bumper and hood
8. remove trans
9. remove engine
My question is how do disengage the throwout bearing? Would I just need to remove the shaft holding the fork in place?
could someone give me more details on the matter since this is the only thing that I haven't experienced before.
if I were to remove both engine and trans from the car then separate them I would
1. remove starter
2. remove front axles (and drive shaft)
3. remove pitch mount and all attaching sensors/harnesses
4. disconnect A/C lines
5. remove all front panels and bumper and hood
6. pull engine/trans
please let me know if i've missed anything. if you've done this sort of thing on a 6MT please chime in.
Thanks,
Jon
I am aware of other things that need disconnecting I'm just pointing out the major things that need removal

no need to take out the motor and trans together if you just changing motor seperate the motor in the car and leave the trans and then lift it out no need to take the bumper off hood i would ... as for the a/c just pull the compressor off and put it to the side,id try my hardest not to open the system(thats when you start to get leaks)
when you planning to start? im down to help out

as you mentioned that would be easiest but it's easier to make sure the tranny is installed correctly if it's out of the car as well you know?
Thanks for the offer D. If your number is still the same I'll call you. I'm familiar with A/C so that's not a problem. but the reason for removing the front fenders/bumper/gril and hood would be to minimize damage
As soon as it gets here and I'm off that's when I'm gonna start. Since everything seems to plug and play I'm estimating 1 day and maybe 2 at the most for this. It took 48 hours for me to swap in the 6 speed and completely pull the entire body harness and put in a new one (including dropping the fuel tank due to 1 sensor change from late 01 early 02 to 03.
If not then I'll have to call in sick.
PM me your number so that I can call you

Yup, But I appreciate you mentioning something.
How Do I remove the trans to engine since the clutch cover and throw out bearing are engaged that's what I really want to know.

confirmed that this made things a hell of a lot easier.
I removed all necessary things connecting to the transmission and engine as stated earlier
I removed the starter and the hex plug was right behind the starter. Removed with alan wrench and saw screw hole for 6mm bolt or screw. Found one at home laying around and threaded it in. I couldn't just pull it out by hand for some reason so I used a flat head screw driver and wedged it in between the screw and the transmission once I got it to move I could remove it by hand. Shift fork slops around but after removing all bolts on the transmission it separated very easily.
