How does swapping works?

Sorry for a semi-dumb questions...

lets say, I brought my car in for a swap. they (any swap shop) put the swapped engine in.... then, do they keep the old engine with them??? or I take it home with me and posibly resell the old engine for some money back?

If I keep the old parts in, whats the base price for a used ej25 or how easy it is to sell the old engines... (if milage would help, my engine has a little less than 40K).

depends on the shop, sometimes they may give you a credit for the motor, sometimes they just keep it or give it to you.
If your near Novato or can come up to get the swap done, I'd suggest LIC as Adam is teh_swap master

I second the recommendation for Adam@LIC. He was really helpful and knowledgable when I was trying to get a used 2.2L for my L wagon. His shop was clean and organized, and looking at some of their projects I could tell that they do great work. In fact I think he's the only person in California who knows anything about older subarus.

Like madhatter said, they'll probably give you a choice for credit towards your swap or giving it back to you. In most cases I'd say keeping the engine and selling it privately would be your best bet. Your engine could be worth anywhere from 600-1200 bucks. The subaru engine demand has gone up because people are putting them in airplanes and VW Vanagons.

Yea I know that LIC will buy the engine from you depending on mileage...but from what they told me is since my engine is over 70k they wouldnt give me anything for it really. But see if you can keep it or what...just gotta weigh the choices and see how much you could sell it for vs how much the shop will give u for it.
