Swapping trunks, need advice

I'm swapping out my trunk for another, but wanted to know the level of difficulty...

Is it just a matter of removing the bolts? Also, how does one deal with changing/removing the lock from the trunk lid. I've never done this before. I'm hoping someone else has and can give some advice.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Its not just removing the bolts because you have to deal with the trunk springs as well.
I have not done this before, but my springs have come off before and it is not easy to put them back in place.

I thought I wouldn't have to deal with the springs. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the trunk lid bolt onto those two arms. Sorry if I'm not using the correct jargon, but isn't that how its bolted on. If I'm wrong please let me know.

Also, is it hard to take off the locks?

u can just take off the lids, BUT the springs on the stock lid are thinner then the ones on the lid with a spoiler. So w/o changing the lids the trunklid will fall on the trunk with the spoiler on it...it won't be a problem for the car w/o the spoiler though.

Spring are the same AFAIK.

Just bolts that hold the lid and the latch mechanism.

When I went into get my spoiler put on they told me to take out my subs because they have to replace the springs...Thats what the dealership in WC told me, but I have not done it personally though...

i guess my question is how does the normal trunk "function"

by that i mean like at say 45 degrees (half way open) mine closes and with enough force to shut

all the way open it is able to stay open

anyone with a spoiler stock wanna describe their trunk motion

(i dont remember how my car was before i swapped trunks...)

man o man...im confused. I guess the only way to find out now is to look at my springs and compare it to the other car. I hope I dont have to swap out the springs too!

I had a Impreza coupe before my wagon and the coupe came with spoiler, after I took off the spoiler the trunk opened significantly faster than before. It was flying.

I don't know exactly what you are trying to do but if you have a big heavy spoiler like ver6, you might wanna consider changing the spring as well if you care. It's more problem when you a lightening the trunk i guess, it'll surprise people. Not a big deal to me though.

The springs on base model Impreza has less tension has less tension because it has no spoiler stock.
but I'm not sure if it'll help with your cf trunk since your cf trunk with spoiler is probably still lighter than stock trunk with no spoiler.
Weigh you stock trunk w/ no spoiler and your current set up to compare. If it's close then spring from base model would work.
