Engine weights

I'm considering the 2.5 4 cyl and 3.0 6 as possible kit car donor engines. I particularly like the low cg, and the room to work/add accessories. I used to autocross a friends WRX around and quite enjoyed it. Can anyone tell me how much these engines weigh? Will the 6 cylinder mate up to the 4 cyl gearbox? Any particulars of these two engines that I should know about? I've not mentioned the WRX engine because it's more expensive, and I want something with a broader powerband.

Thanks for any and all input

The 6 cyl motor can bolt up to the gearboxes designed for 4cyl. I don't know how many custom brackets and mounts you'll need to make, but hey, you're building a kit car

I assume it shouldn't be any worse then mounting any tranny in a kit car.

So that weight is with alternator and manifolds? Not bad!

Thanks.

Any more?

I don't know the exact weights, but I can give you rough order of lightest->heaviest. Starting with EJ25, then EJ22, then EJ18 (basing this on near-identical blocks, except the larger engines have more bored out of the cylinder walls, and similar SOHC head designs except for Phase I EJ25s) then EJ20s, then the 6 cylinder engines. The EZ30 was significantly heavier than the EJ25 despite having near identical outer dimensions.

EJ22 long block, no accessories or intake manifold- 188 lbs.

You're really peaking my interest. So the EJ 25 is lighter than the 22, which isn't bad at all. That's very encouraging. It really makes me wonder why I don't see more of these in kit car applications. A low CG, light weight and torquey motor seems just the ticket for a 1200 lb. car.

I'm just guessing on the EJ25,22, and 18 non turbo motors. They are all going to be very similar in weight.
