engine swap
engine swap
I own a 2000 RS and my auto tranny is going out and I need to replace it. I am thinking of doing a total engine tranny swap from the original to a JDM STI5 (STi Version 5) engine. The engine is from totaljdm.com does anyone know about this company or could recommend a good place to get this type of engine. Also what all am I going to need to do this swap, is it worth my time and money? I know I probably sound like a dumbass asking these questions but this is the first time that I have done this. The engine comes with the tranny, wiring harness, and ecu. What all do I need to complete the swap? Thanks for your input.
The toughest part is the wiring.
You also need all the sensors (boost solenoid, MAF, etc). It's simple to just pull out your engine and plop in another one. It's the finer details that you get screwed with.
There's lots of places out there...finding a reputable dealer is tough. I'm doing the same thing, but sourcing an entire car (wrecked) from japan. I nabbed a 95L as a shell (no rust, no accidents, just some scratches...but body is good). So, I need a crapload of stuff (see below). Use this as a guide.
Oh, and note that going from auto to manual is a pain in the ***: you need the pedal set, the linkage, the clutch resevoir, etc. My list could be wrong, but use it as a basic guide (it has way more than you'll need because you actually have a decent setup with the RS
Oh, yeah, you won't need the fuel cage, but you'll need a fuel pump. You also won't _NEED_ the axles...and you obviously don't need the rear crossmember or swaybars, etc. Like I said, use it as a guide. I have absolutely NOTHING on my car worth saving...so I need a total donor car.
Needed:
=======
Engine (complete - with or without AC, including downpipe, all sensors, all
wiring, ECU, alternator, starter, air box, MAF, boost solenoid, etc)
Tranny with linkage, clutch, flywheel (4.444)
Driveshaft / Propeller shaft
Rear diff (LSD - 4.444)
Front Crossmember
Rear crossmember
4 axles
4 control arms
4 Knuckles/hubs
4 Brakes w/brake lines (4 pot front, 2 pot rear)
4 Struts with springs / top hats, to match knuckles
Steering rack
Power steering lines from the steering rack to the resevoir, and to the pump
& back (hard and soft lines)
Radiator
Radiator hoses
Pedal set (all three)
Pedal linkage
Shifter box
Shifter mounting details with linkage
Clutch master cylinder
Master cylinder
Brake proportioning valve for the master cylinder
Fuel cage
Fuel pump (with wiring)
Optional:
=========
Hood (optional from a clip, but need for swap)
Front swaybar with endlinks
Rear swaybar with endlinks

Hello,
I am thinking of starting my swap soon. I am going to pick up the chasis that my swap is going into tomorrow. Here are some pics of my clip..... I recieved everything except the fuel pump, and the correct drive/prop shaft.
Looking for the above parts if anyone knows where I can get them. Thanks
