From the begining..1998 Outback Sport
Hi,
I am new to Subaru's and am getting allot of grins from my new to me purchase(98 outback sport).
My question to anyone and everyone that can answer it for me is What parts and pieces are interchangable with my 98????As I do repairs I would like to upgrade the parts with better than stock.
For example ;I think I may have to find a 5 spd for it mine is acting up.Which years would swap out(gear ratio, bolt pattern etc)?Trans mounts, pitch rods etc not allot listed just for the OBSport but it seems there are a bunch that will interchange(Lego's they say)??.
Is there an interchange book out there?
Down the road in the next year or two I am thinking upgrade, if I can find the right crashed doner car(wrx)..
Thanks.
Allan

Almost anything that fits a 93-2001 impreza will fit your 98 OBS. The struts and springs are wagon specific, but other than that, your golden almost 100%!
I would suggest a swaybar as your first mod. Buy the 2004+ rear swaybar mount for a wrx (all imprezas actually) with a 20mm bushing. Also buy a wrx 20mm rear swaybar. This will tighten up the rear ends response and willingness to rotate. Educate yourself about suspension. I suggest spdusa.com read about the older model imprezas, averything applies to your car.
An OBS is just an impreza wagon with two-tone trim.
And in the future, whenever you wanna mod or replace a specific area, (suspension, brakes, exterior, engine etc...) just ask specific questions or search nasioc.com

That gives me an idea of what to look for.I am waiting till spring as I have to pull my gear box(Syncro's).....I am leaning towards a club rally car of some sort at this point...
