Chris still refused to take ANY responsibility for the failure,so he picked up the car and we ate the balance. I could be a dick and file collections on the balance but I would rather just out it behind us and move on.

I will note that we made an oversight when the engine was torn down by not inspecting the cylinders. Our machine shop does this normally because you need a torque plate to do it properly. Since at that point it appeared to simply be a head gasket failure, the head surfaces and the block deck and all bearing clearances were inspected and reset to spec. But the cylinders were not inspected thoroughly enough because that is not something and is normally effected with a failed head gasket. This was our mistake for not insisting on our machine shop to check it out.

So how can you say its under warranty at no expense and then try to charge the customer months later?

I have no idea what you're saying here. We always recommend all of our built engines run at least a 10w-40 oil in colder temps and a 15w-50 or 20w-50 in hot weather or track conditions. I just reviewed your original invoice with us and it actually has a 10w-40 oil listed as break-in oil. You then chose to run Mobil 1 5w-30 after break-in... not sure why. If you weren't sure what to run you could have given us a quick call or shot an e-mail. Or even done a quick search online to find that people don't like running Mobil 1 5w-30 even on stock engines, let alone a built engine making 400whp.

This is a prime example of people not taking responsibility for their own actions. It is your car and your engine. You chose to do your own maintenance work on it and used the incorrect fluid that caused wear and eventually serious damage over a year after the build. You then came to me and we figured out that you were running the wrong oil the whole time which wore out the bearings. Looking at your rebuild invoice, I actually did not charge you for any labor that we did at all... all I charged you for was machine shop labor that we pay for and the parts that we had to replace at out cost. Considering the engine failure was a direct result of your negligence, this was more than fair and reasonable IMHO.

I sent you the PM because I was surprised to see your post. Over the last 2 years you have called and e-mailed me with questions that I was always happy to answer and you were always appreciative of it. I even got a response e-mail from you a couple days ago thanking me for answering an injector question for you. Then the next day I see that post... wouldn't that surprise you?

Because when the car was initially brought in we assumed that it was purely a head gasket failure and assumed that we had done something incorrectly. Like I said previously, I always assume we did something wrong first. At this point I was ready to cover all costs for the rebuild. I even went through major arguments with my machine shop to get them to cover their work under warranty as well. After finding that the problem was entirely caused by the injector and remembering the conversation I had with Chris 6 months earlier about it, we had to re-evaluate the situation. I did not feel it was fair for my machine shop to cover the costs in this situation and went ahead and paid them for their work. At this point I came up with a solution of splitting the responsibility between Deatschwerks, myself, and Chris... the only fair thing to do at this point. Chris still refused to take any responsibility for his actions and ended up refusing to pay the $1500 balance after all the heavy discounts. He ended up picking up the car as is and I did not pursue further action to recover the unpaid balance.

I can't make any sense of your last two posts Phil. I'm not sure what's going on with you all of a sudden but I've never seen such incoherent writing from you before.

Anyway, I think I explained very clearly exactly what happened and why with your engine. I took a good deal of responsibility for not being 100% clear by not charging you for ANY labor on our end and giving you cost on all the parts... trust me I was not thinking about my wallet at that point!

Your invoice clearly stated your engine was running a 10w-40 for the break-in and you made no attempt to find out what oil you should use when doing your maintenance own work. Do you take any responsibility for that?

I'm done running around in circles with this. Some people will never be happy and will never take responsibility for their mistakes. I am not perfect, but I always try to run my business as ethically and fairly as possible. Sometimes that means being fair to my vendors, my machine shop, and my employees as well. In a perfect world, I would do all work at no charge for everyone and just enjoy what I do. In the real world, I have to keep a business running, pay my employees, my vendors, my rent, etc. When something is clearly our fault, I take care of it and cover all costs. When an issue arises that is clearly not our fault, I still try to come up with a fair compromise, but in these situations I cannot throw my business down the drain to try to make an unreasonable person happy.

why would i call you if you verbally told me something? i have always listened to you. im not a dumb punk kid that spends mommys and daddys money. i had a really bad experiance with EQ on a few deals i have had there.
just felt and still do feel like nothing as a customer was done. and thats my point here. i was overbilled and had to pay for a rebuild, turbo, crank, bearing,
and plus the 1st rebuild on my built motor. not to mention you made me use my old coil packs on a 2.5 block which your guys solution was to cut them to make them work as well as breaking an injector clip which i never said because all this BS was going down. dont want to air dirty Laundry. but it is what it is.

I'm still not understanding you. If you're claiming that I verbally told you to run 5w-30 in your built engine, your completely full of it. I know for a fact I have NEVER made that recommendation to any customer. I am happy to admit my faults, but that is just crazy.

I'm sorry you were not satisfied with your experience here, but I did everything in my power to help you out. I hope you have better experiences elsewhere in the future.

Later, I had read of and seen failures with these injectors and when you called about the intermittent missfire, I told you to bring it in or pull the injectors yourself and send them in. You ignored this and continued to drive and track the car for 6 months until the head gasket blew and worst of all, the cylinder warped from running so lean. If you had followed my instruction, you would have likely saved the engine.

The single overheating event you talked about was not likely head gasket related as it did not happen again for some time after you replaced the t-star if I recall.

At the end of the day, it is your highly modified car to take care of. Such a car has many aftermarket parts and many variables such as injectors, turbo, E85 quality and consistency, etc. It is your responsibility to do you best to maintain and take care of it. And when your builder and tuner warns and recommends a course of action in responses to a symptom, you can't just ignore it and assume everything will be fixed for free when you just let it go. This is similar to a doctor telling you you have a tumor and you should get a biopsy, then you ignore it and when it turns out to be cancer, you blame the doctor.

Everyone in this situation took some responsibility for their actions except you. Deatschwerks accepted that there was and issues with the injector and provided free injectors and credits in response. I accepted that I did not identify the injector issue right away even though it had not gotten to the point of being obvious and in response offered you all the work and parts at or bellow our cost. In your mind, however, you did nothing wrong and were not willing to accept responsibility for your actions. This is the problem.

I always try to be as fair as possible when bad situations arise, but sometimes fair is not good enough for some people and they end up not being happy with the situation. In the last 4+ years we have built many engines and dealt with many different customers. We are by no means perfect, and have made mistakes and learned from them. In the end, a vast majority of our customers are very happy with our products and services, but some people just have unrealistic expectations and will never be happy. That is the sad realization I have come to.

Some issues?!?! My car never ran %100! No charge to ur shop but it still cost me! It cost me almost $300 to tow the car to ur shop and you told me you would normally charge someone to make the repairs you did.

I also had that huge pre turbo exhaust leak that you blamed on my intercooler install. You tuned the car with that exhaust leak and when you went to tune the car the last time you didnt give me any sort of brake on the cost.

What else could the over heating have been caused by?? The oem t-stat you installed was supposedly brand new. Even you said u had never heard of one failing that soon. And the car started to over heat due to a small leak that progressively got worse and worse. The first time it over heated was 1/12 then the car sat for over a week waiting to hear back from you and waiting for the new t-stat(even though later i found the original was fine). the next time the car over heated was 1/25 and numerous times after that. Never once did you mention anything about it possibly being a failed head gasket.

Finally on 2/24 i got a misfire cel code. When I emailed you about this you said it was most likely due to a bad tank of e85.

On 3/12 i have a email from you saying it could possibly be the injectors(two months after it had over heating issues). You said it would cost about $150 in labor to take them out and ship them to get tested and that the car would be out for 1.5 week(thats 3-5 weeks in EQ time encase anyone was wondering). Never once did you make it out to be a big deal or to not drive the car till it was checked.

And DW never took responsibility for the injector issue. You sent my 1300cc"s in to be flow tested and all 4 came back just fine. DW did say there "could" be an issue but they were unable to mimic anything. They did give me a set of injectors and a full refund but if you read that email they did so because they didnt want there product affiliated with any bad situation. This is telling me that there not choosing sides..not EQ was right. If anything this shows that the injectors are fine!

All and all What i would recommend for all the people out here is to talk to actual people and not always believe what you read on this forum. I chose Eq based on what i read and if i had actually talked to people and other shop owners I would have gone a completely different route. I could almost write a non fictional horror book based on all the things ive heard about EQ(story's that can be backed up). I made a huge mistake and basically threw $12k down the toilet and was left with a really big sti paper weight.
