I can't quite say that I see this as a "flame session." There was a reason why I capitolized sales in sales tax. As said in my post, there are fees involved, none of them are sales tax. My primary point was that it's not sales tax. I too am in NC, temporarily. I've neither bought nor sold a car here (but looking for one, which is the main reason I'm here in the first place). However, I sold cars (subaru included)for a good bit of my adult life (never again) and averaged over 14 a month for about 3 years. The info I was basing this on was the Georgia laws which I'm familiar with, apparently their fees are much, much less than the majority of the states. BTW, I'm looking for a good deal on a Subaru wagon (Outback, Legacy or Impreza, 00 or newer, 70k or less miles, below KBB private party value), if you find one that meets the criteria that you don't want, email me. If I purchase it I would be happy to pay a "bird dog" fee. jkd64@yahoo.com if you have any questions

O.K. I can see this is turning into a flame session, but to prove my point I just got off the phone with NC DMV. Melody was very nice. Every state is slightly different, but they get there money somehow.

The prices they quote are always lower than kbb but its more inline with whats out there on the market.

Once again, you don't pay SALES tax...but what would I know, I have
1. Sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 cars (which is where this discussion originated)
2. Owned an operated in antique store
3. Have a degree in marketing management with a minor in business law. would you like me to go on?
BTW, this may not be the case where you are, but in southeast markets KBB is much more accurate for most cars.

NOT!
Listen. Your missing the point. Like I said earlier. What may be true in Georgia or North Carolina or where ever it is your from(which I actually disproved NC in a previous post) is not necessarily true in other states. This is a country wide forum. I don't know what the laws are in Georgia because I've never sold or purchased a car there. I just looked up the laws in North Carolina because that's where you live, and you did see that you pay a percentage of the value or price of the vehicles net worth. So spouting out that you never pay sales tax is misleading to someone who may live in another state. The end.
Also, touting your degrees and accomplishments does not impress us. If you do have a law degree, what were you doing selling cars?

Sure .... I don't know what I'm talking about and all the millions of other people in the US who pay taxes on the second hand cars they buy.
Please don't even try bringing you educational background into this because there are more educated people than you in this forum..... myself included
Oh the kbb issue ... checked ebay for second hand cars recently? How about Autotrader? I you'll see that one that are close to edmunds value sell a lot quicker than those set at kbb (if they even sell).... but hey you can make a fool out someone sometimes ..
Again I don't want to get involved in a pissing contest..... believe what you may ....

Anyway, now that we have all completely hijacked this poor guy's thread. Bump for his EVO sale. Hope you sell it.
In Ca, when you buy a used private party vehicle, you DO NOT have to submit a bill of sale, you just tell them how much you paid for the car or write it in if your submitting the pink slip from the previous owner assuming they had it in hand. You ARE required to pay for the sales tax that you report to the DMV.
To the original poster, you might as well put it on E bay and try your chances because I would just laugh if someone offered me $22K for my evo ( I don't own one) You would be surprised what you can get for your EVO, the whole country will be able to see your car, just take some good pics. Have you had any solid offers?

Absolutely astounding that you still don't understand the issue with SALES tax. I guess I am to assume that all government fees are sales taxes? I pay property taxes, etc...since they are a % of a value, I'll just assume it's SALES tax.
Silent-if you paid SALES tax on that car, yes they did. And since when did I say I've sold cars since I got the degree? And my "law degree" as you put it taught me enough to know you don't pay a SALES tax on private party purchases in the US.
As to your reference to ebay, of course people look for GOOD DEALS on there. If cars sold for average market value on there, it would be all but useless to all but the people looking for high demand/hard to find items. Of couse a car (or whatever else for that matter) will sell quicker if it is below value. I could get on ebay right now and sell my original Dali for $10 buy it now and it would be gone in a hurry, so I guess it would be fair to say that it's market value for it.
DaWorstPlaya- With a handle like that I should have just assumed you the intellectual. Can I also assume that both your degree and your job pertain to what we're discussing? My wife is a radiologist and she too could proclaim the same of her education, but neither her nor I are under the delusion that she would know more about this than I do.

Anybody know how to host an image? I scanned a copy of my title receipt to show this moron once and for all. You must be either totally inept, or just trying to get our goat, or maybe both.
