Yellow Headlight Tint
OK... I bought some.
My question is, does anyone know the VC code for Ca that relates to "Yellow headlights?" I want to have it with me incase I get pulled over for it.
I think that I saw a post with the info. but for the life of me I cant find it. Yes, I searched.
I also looked up the VC code, and cant find any codes saying that it is legal or not.
Thanks...

I would suggest not "informing" a police officer of the vc. It is there job to know the vc and if you start showing them some internet print out, my guess is they will not be very happy.
iirc...yellow tint is okay as long as it doesn't affect the reflectivity of the headlights. I know for sure that blue or dark smoke tint is illegal.

Yeah, I think smoke is illegal in CA, but why wouldn't yellow be legal? It increases visibility.
Also, are you reffering to the fog lights or your main headlamps?

Yellow may increase visability in some conditions, but the nature of tint/film is that no matter what color it is, less light is being emitted from the headlights. So they might still be illegal. The thing is, weather or not it's illegal almost doesn't matter. Because if you get pulled over, many cops write tickets for anything that's not stock and send you to the state ref to straighten it out.

i got 2500k bulbs for my headlamps and i suppose it will result in the same manner if you have yellow tint on it. result after driving around for 30 minutes i got pulled over and i live in Indiana so chances are if its illegal here its illegal in cally cause everything is legal here in indy.
yeah i got them in the high beams of my gsr, and fog lights of the subie, super yellow ones. drive all the time with them on, in the gsr. there very nice for drivnig in all kinds of weather. but i have never had a cop stop me yet for the yellow lights. and you know that they make all kinds of diffrent ones so you don't have to put the tint on your headlights. just buy the one you want and replace it
For any laws in almost any state you can contact your State Legislator's office or your state's Legislative Access Bureau.
They have people there that can find laws really quick.

But by the same token, the CHP website shows yellow headlights illegal by another vehicle code which contradicts this code above:
http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/streetlegal.html
Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC). Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package.
24011 doesn't mention anything about blue or yellow lights...strange! :/

I just check the vehicle code from the DMV website again...and they have revised the code some, but yellow and white are still the legal colors to be reflected from any front facing lights. I'd double check the legality of the colored film though, but it's still should be good. May still get you pulled over, but at least you know the laws a little better to discuss with the officer.
