on another note... to have a drivers license in japan its much more intense than getting one here- there you take a drivers test along with a test in basic car maintenance(which i believe involves actual physical tests)- with that in mind i think its safe to say that(as on a whole) drivers in japan might tend to be more responsible drivers- (possibly less driving related accidents) <--- my own speculation.
all this info is second hand info from my friend from japan. his mother was visiting here last week from japan and we were talking just about what i discussed here.
if someone in japan(or from) can validy or dispute this please do. (Choku Dori?

But nonetheless, it'd be interesting to ask some of my Japanese friends about the juicy details haha. One of them has Japanese, American (CA), Thai, and International driver's licenses
We've talked a bit about driving overseas before, but not in much detail, so next time I see him....

The test for the Japanese to get a drivers license is alot harder than getting one in the States and you have to be 18 years of age. Also they are not much better drivers as there are alot of accidents. On the other hand the fastest speed limits around here are like 80km/h which is not very fast hence they dont need all the massive protect me crap the American cars need!!!
